Apple is reclosing 10 more US stores in California, Ohio, and Tennessee due to deteriorating COVID-19 conditions. The latest round of reclosings adds to 2 stores temporarily shuttered earlier this week for a total of 90 US locations reclosed due to COVID-19.

Staying open while maintaining a safe environment is proving to be a delicate balance for Apple in both the US and elsewhere. Apple recently reclosed all of its stores in the Greater Melbourne area as Victoria reimposed lockdown measures. Stores in Augusta, Georgia and Fresno, California reclosed effective July 8. If regional COVID-19 outbreaks continue popping up in the communities Apple serves, we can expect this pattern of reopening and reclosing to continue for a considerable amount of time.

The following stores will reclose effective July 10. Apple will accept customers with existing online orders and previously scheduled Genius Support appointments at these locations through July 12.

California

  • Brea Mall (Brea)
  • South Coast Plaza (Costa Mesa)
  • Irvine Spectrum Center (Irvine)
  • Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo)
  • Fashion Island (Newport Beach)
  • El Paseo Village (Palm Desert)
  • State Street (Santa Barbara)
  • Promenade Temecula (Temecula)

Ohio

  • Kenwood Towne Centre (Cincinnati)

Tennessee

  • CoolSprings Galleria (Franklin)

Chevrolet unveiled this week the new 2021 Corvette Stingray, which will be available later this year. In addition to everything that has changed in the newest model, the 2021 Corvette includes Wireless CarPlay support, built-in Qi charger, and other modern features.

If you’re not familiar with CarPlay, it’s a feature available in selected cars that allows you to connect your iPhone to the car’s multimedia system to access iOS apps adapted for use in the vehicle.

Once you connect your iPhone to CarPlay, you can access maps with turn-by-turn navigation, make and answer calls, play songs on streaming services, and more.

While CarPlay can be used wirelessly, most cars require the user to connect the iPhone through a Lightning cable. That’s one aspect where the new 2021 Corvette Stingray stands out from other cars, as it offers Wireless CarPlay support for iPhone users.

As noted by Engadget, the 2021 Corvette Stingray also offers built-in Qi charger for charging your phone wirelessly while you’re not using it. Wireless charging works with iPhone 8 and later. The car also has NFC technology, Android Auto, and support for over-the-air updates.

The new 2021 Corvette Stingray comes at a starting price of $59,995 in the US. You can read more about it on Chevrolet’s website.

Don’t forget to check out our hands-on with the CarPlay changes on iOS 14.

Gartner: Mac shipments increase 5.1% in Q2 2020 with global PC market growth

New data from Gartner reveal that shipments of the Mac lineup increased 5.1% year over year in the second quarter of 2020.

While Apple shipped approximately 4.1 million Mac units in the second quarter of 2019, the company reached 4.3 million Mac units in the same period this year. Apple is the fourth-largest computer vendor in the world coming after Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

The market share of Mac sales during the quarter was stable, going from 6.6% in 2019 to 6.7% this year.

Gartner notes that the growth of the Mac follows an overall growth of the PC industry in 2020, which is mainly attributed to more people working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, mobile PC growth was particularly strong, driven by several factors including business continuity for remote working, online education and consumers’ entertainment needs. However, this uptick in mobile PC demand will not continue beyond 2020, as shipments were mainly boosted by short-term business needs due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PC market in the U.S. grew 3.5% year over year, reaching its fifth consecutive quarter of growth. The data is based on a Gartner research that includes shipments of desktop computers and laptops, but not Chromebooks or iPads.
